Job Security Does It Exist?
The facts have to be faced, the World today is far removed from what our parents and grandparents experienced. Income levels in general have increased but so then has the cost of living. So much so that even in the top richest nations there are many monetary problems.
Those fortunate enough (or not) to get on the housing ladder find themselves working two jobs or more just to make ends meets. This is not a satisfactory situation. Unemployment, redundancy, 'down-sizing' appears to be a permanent fixture in our lives.
It was easier fifty years ago to get a job and keep it for life. It was pretty secure, but in todays environment that is not the case. No one is safe not even in the so called safe jobs of banking and finance. There are major upheavals happening on almost a daily basis.
If we were to just take a minute or two and put ourself in that situation what would we do if our income stopped. Have we any money in savings, would we be able to get a short term loan until we found another job. If we did find another job would it be one that we wanted and would it be paying the same.
It's easy to think that this may never happen to us, of course it only happens to other people, so why worry. But it is a hard fact of life that it is happening to people just like us and with an uneasy frequency.
Maybe your job and income is secure for the time being, but you just loathe your existing job. The hours are long, the pay is never quite enough and the boss is the boss.
There are many people that are unhappy in the workplace and slowly but surely their life's dreams and ambitions are going down day by day. Imagine continuing along the same path for the next five or ten years, does the picture look any better?
To survive in todays World we are the ones that need to be in control and not leave our destiny to others who care not for our future and the future of our families. We need to diversify so that if one source of income were to dry up we could still carry on with no problem.
The World is a bigger place in which to do business and there are opportunities waiting on every corner. It is up to us to carefully consider the options that are available to us and not casually dismiss them. The opportunity dismissed today could be the goldmine of tomorrow. |
